The 8th PFDC Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week came to an end yesterday. Day four presented all the High street fashion shows by Arsalan Iqbal, Erum Khan, Chinyere and Hassan Riaz while the designers who showcased were Sana Safinaz, Republic by Omar Farooq, Syeda Amera, Huma and Amir Adnan, Sania Maskatiya and HSY. Some important announcements were also made by the beautiful Sara Shahid of Sublime and PFDC Chairperson Mrs Sehyr Saigol shared plans of establishing Pakistan’s first ever craft based Design district, on behalf of all the other brand members.
High Street Fashion Shows
The House of Arsalan Iqbal: Day four was opened by the house of Arsalan Iqbal with their collection “Devolution Chic” which was inspired by the street art across the world. Pac-man, calligraphic, aqua, tangerine brands and circlets were some of the patterns that were seen throughout the collection. The collection featured chiffon, structured silhouettes, draped tunics, jumpsuits, pallazos, silk jackets and the footwear and jewelry which was created in collaboration with SANKI.
Erum Khan: Erum Khan was next to showcase her debut collection “The Untainted Shine” which was inspired by the sparkle of twinkling stars. Straight cuts, organza, silk, 3d floral patterns, katdanna, patch work all based in white colour, high waist skirts, button up pants and dresses is what the collection was all about. Gohar mumtaz and his wife Anum Ahmed, walked beautifully as the celebrity show stoppers. The ruffles and color palette made the collection Oh so Feminine and wearable for the scorching summer months!
Chinyere: Erum Khan was followed by Chinyere’s Spring/Summer’15 collection titled “Mijaz-e-Shahana” which was basically a glimpse into the bygone the Mughal royalty. The collection displayed stylish and modern silhouettes, embellished cigarette pants, knee length jackets, digital printed jumpsuits, boot-cuts and A-line. In men’s wear, we saw waist coats, jodhpurs, sherwani’s and kurtas. Black, Gold Ivory, Saffron, Grey and Bronze were the colours on which jewel stones like jade, emerald, ruby and sapphires were based. The collection went easy on the eye and the bling used was subtle with an oomph factor. Some of the separates were awe inspiring and a must have for an evening out!
Hassan Riaz: The high street fashion show was closed by Hassan Riaz with his collection “Contained Shadows”, inspired by the different faces of the human soul. He used a colour pallet of blue, white with a gold tinge on organza, summer denim and summer twill to show his inspiration properly. The collection consisted of structured silhouettes, corsets, bustier, cropped tops, and patch work of metal with flowers. The cut flowers appliqued on the collection gave the entire theme a retro look and yet added drama to each piece.
Designer Showcases
Sana Safinaz: Day four’s pret-o-porter show was opened by Sana Safinaz with their collection inspired by monochromatic looks with pops of colour. The fabrics used were silks, organza, kattan while the colour palette comprised of black, white and vibrant colours. The trends that were followed were clean cuts, impressive embellishments and oversized T. We absolutely loved those pop art dresses!
Republic by Omar Farooq: Sana Safina’s collection was followed by Republic by Omar Farooq, who showcased his men’s collection “Que Sera, Sera!” meaning, “Whatever will be, will be” A wide range of fabric had been used such as linen, cotton, suede, silks and chiffon. We saw coats, pants chinos, jackets and yes those exquisite blazers. Fawad Khan walked on the ramp as the celebrity showstopper making people drool over him once again. As per Omar Farooq, yes the country’s menswear is in safe hands and we totally agree with him!
Syeda Amera: After Republic, Syeda Amera displayed her debut collection, “The world of Sea”. It showed her inspiration from the fascinating underwater. The collection comprised of organza, net, silks, fine cuts, embellishments of beads, sequins and feathers using the colour palette of blues, pink, yellows, orange and green. Key trends followed were skirts, frills, flared pants and ruffles.
Huma and Amir Adnan: Huma and Amir Adnan showcased their collection “Symphony”, which was inspired by the notion of how two people can be around the same perception in synchronization while being themselves, holding their individuality. Both menswear and women’s wear were featured. Silk, linen, cotton, embroideries, prints in the colour palette of blue, green, ivory, magenta, earthy tones and beige was what we observed. Trends that were followed were long shirts, printed jackets, tighter silhouette, coloured shoes for men, vest and jackets for women.
Sania Maskatiya: Sania Maskatiya totally rocked the ramp yesterday with her collection “Paristan” which was inspired by the land of fairies. No, we cannot deny the fact that her collection was indeed the best of all. She played with the lightest and darkest colours all at once, based in silk, organza, charmeuse and crepe. Embellishments were done using beads and sequins. Loved those motifs which totally made people know what the collection was actually about and why people are crazy about her designs and thought process behind her collections!
HSY: The finale of PFDC Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week’15 was presented by HSY with his collection “INK”, inspired by Asia. The collection featured the conventional dyeing methods of Shipori from Nagasaki, Batik and Gara, suffused with saffron, indigo, white and blues with a tinge of yellow. We saw Sherwani’s geometric self-printed fabric, embellished sleeves, floral print, cropped tops, bell bottoms and capes. The collection was an infusion of eastern and western wear. Last night just proved why HSY is known as the King of the Ramp. And not to forget, WE LOVE CONFETTI!
