Crazy new trend: Hair pixelation

The year started with hair professionals trying hard to push Ombré, the reigning trend of 2014, out of the limelight and paving way for streaks to make a comeback, which led us to sight the likes of Halle Berry, Jennifer Garner and Jada Pinkett Smith sporting ribbons of strong colors running through their locks in a way that was subtle, yet made a statement. In striking comparison to that, Jack Howard of Neville Hair & Beauty Salon introduced ‘Babylights’, a softer technique comprising of painting highlights in smaller sections to replicate the effect of a ‘child spending her days playing in the sun’. Add deep browns and softer reds to the mix, and the hair trends for 2015 are complete. However, they’ve still got nothing on the breakthrough, graphic, Tetris tinted locks making waves on the net, the runways and the streets! Here’s our review for the craziest hair-color trend we’ve seen so far.

With technology infiltrating our lives in more ways than one, it was only a matter of time before we had evidence of it painted on our heads. Pixel’s all the rage this year! Named so by its pioneers, hair colorists Jose Luis Almendral, Marco Antonio Restrepo and Jorge Cancer, XpresionPixel is the newest, hottest trend, involving the use of square blocks of color saturated into the hair, before being melded and cascaded to generate a pixilated effect mimicking that of vintage video games.

The pros: It’s fresh, en vogue, and transitional enough to be grown out easily!

The cons: It works best only on short, straight and structured styles that poses little movement and texture.
