The New Normal: Celebrities and Social Media Oversharing

Social media plays a fundamental role in everyone’s lives nowadays. It has entrenched itself in our routine matters at a deeper level. We are convinced that if we have not shared what we did on social media, it did not happen.

It appears borderline incumbent for the celebrities to share their personal lives on social media to stay substantial.

Being a public figure, they are aware that the public shows interest in their favorite celebrities and their lives. Nevertheless, the aftermath of oversharing on social media is not so positive. It diverts the interest of public towards the celebrities’ personal lives.

The admirers feel more connected to the celebrities who engage with them. But, there should be a boundary line between sharing your life on social media and engaging with the public and sharing too much – TMI!

When it comes to sharing stuff online, there is nothing as out-of-bounds for some celebrities. Everything is bared on social media for the world to see.

Social media is a boon and bane for the celebrities. And the most prominent problem faced by Pakistani celebrities is inapt backlash. Perhaps those celebrities are succeeding who know the art of balance when it comes to sharing and engaging on social platforms.

Today, majority of the population has access to social media platforms. With the increase in social media users, the rate of criticism has also increased. The celebrities are always on the receiving end of hate and criticism. Some ignore it and some take it upon themselves to reply to every single one of them. We often see them on our feeds and news because of their involvement with the critics.

Hareem Farooq claps back at haters

Hareem Farooq, a brilliant Pakistani actress and a film producer did not beat about the bush about how people body-shamed her.  She clapped back at the haters in a post.

“For the longest time I had people telling me I was too big or too fat to be in the media and especially in front of the camera,” Hareem Farooq posted on her Instagram.

We reckon that relentlessly engaging in feuds with the netizens stirs unwanted drama. It also shifts the focus towards the discord among the celebrities and the netizens.

Such arguments are instantly reported by every portal out there and it becomes the talk of the town. At times like these, we wonder if some of these celebrities really need to reanalyze the way they engage with people on social media.

Yasir Hussain and Iqra Aziz’s take on critics

Top on the list of such celebrities is Yasir Hussain, who gained attention for all the wrong reasons.

Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain became the talk of the town after their proposal which raised hackles of a lot of people. Some made it their mission to criticize everything they did. Both of them dealt with it in their own ways. While Yasir chose to respond, Iqra Aziz simply turned her comments section off. Aiman and Muneeb

Another famous couple on the list of celebrities who seems quite comfortable sharing their private life happenings is Aiman Khan and Muneeb Butt. They have always been very prominent and active on social media. After Aimen Khan was expecting to have a daughter, she kept a low-profile for a while. However, her twin Minal Khan posted photographs of her baby shower on Instagram and that too went public.

The memes about the Asim Azhar and Hania Amir breakup taking over the internet and the criticism faced by Shahroze Sabzwari and Sadaf Kanwal after the news of their marriage got out are still fresh in our minds.

In this era where sharing everything happening in our lives has become a norm, it is extremely hard to keep our personal lives private. However, there are some Pakistani celebrities who are not comfortable with sharing everything openly. Dare we say they’re against oversharing on social media. They’ve created certain boundaries when it comes to sharing on such platforms. Thus, everyone knows that they cannot intrude in their private life.

Sometimes celebrities intentionally or unintentionally share their whereabouts which results in them having stalkers, receiving death threats and the list goes on.
