The Interview
Thank you for being with us today, how are you?
I’m tired. It’s the school year and I’m a teacher, so things are pretty crazy here.
Tell us about how you got started in the arts?
I got started in the arts about 4 years ago. I was taking some photos with my digital camera but wanted to start using Photoshop, or at least see what it was all about. I got Photoshop and started playing around with it, and then I started making collages instead of playing with the camera.
Why the name Moon patrol?
I was looking for a name for my IG account, and saw an old Atari Moon Patrol cabinet game in a thrift shop near my house. I liked the name and used it.
Why are the old comics and Technicolor shades popular with collage work these days?
Because those are what’s available on the internet and in the used bookstores, and they’re interesting.
What kind of artwork inspires you?
Illustration work, predominantly – any illustration work.
A common image in your work is something evil lurking under the skin, can’t there be something pleasant?
Could be, but it’s less interesting, probably for the same reason all stories are about problems, even those with happy endings.
What horror films do you like?
Funny ones like American Werewolf in London and Shaun of the Dead.
What do you like about your own work?
I like that many of them are in little series, and they look nice together when you line them up.
Thank you for being with us today, what would you like to leave us with?
I started making art when I was 38 or so. You’re never too old to start something new. Thanks.
