Wedding season hits high this year because it started in the mid of winter. Every other passing car in the evening has formally dressed up families, couples or just friends heading towards to one of the celebrated event of Shaadi! Bride and groom are always fixed perfectly cause they are the main attraction of the whole event but the tough decision making comes down to the family and friends. All the lovely ladies got their things planned and done but what about us MEN!! We need to look different and better at every function of each shaadi!
It starts from dholki, which is basically a warm-up round for the mehndi. Among the dholkis, there is a final dholki and from this point onwards, we men need to keep a track of what we wore at whose shaadi and that it does not get repeated for any other. Unless the other wedding has a totally set of friends…and relatives too. You have to be comfortably attired for the dholki. Any dholki attendee has to dance and sing too, on top of that should be mentally prepared for a long evening ahead. You have to prepare that whole sync dance. For me, Shalwar Kameez is way too far formal. I rather settle for a comfortable jeans and a kurta. Though its winter but do not wear any sort of sweater or jacket but stick to good old Creamy White or Black chaddar. Make sure the color palate for dholkis MUST be way subtle cause you need to shine on the mehndi.
Now its the time to shine and be all well Mashriqi (eastern) dressed up for Mehndi. Themed dressing is in but still you have to make yourself a notch different from the crowd. Where is the fun being One-Of-The-Crowd. One can always jazz up their game by adding a little touch of own personality. If its formal wasitcoat over same colored Shalwar Kameez, go for Jacquard or Printed one. If all have same Waistcoat, add a touch of Pocket Square. Or even a bold neck scarf. I came across some really nice fabricated formal peshawari chappals recently. You can even get them customized from few shoe vendors. Match up your chappal with your waistcoat. Go Wild…cuz its Mehndi
On Baraat, it all depends who you are and which side you are representing. If you are the host (Larki wali side) and are responsible for one of the event aspect like Khana or receiving guest, make sure you look important yet comfortable in your attire. I have a close friend and this guy chose to wear wrong type of shoes on a Baraat day where he was responsible for everything. Talk about being the most tired and pained host of an event. Recently I have become a big fan of fine checks with longwing blucher shoes with colors being very very warm. Recently, the brand options has gone quite diversified, we got Charcoal, Rici Melion, Republic and Pensy. This is other than the customized tailoring facilities. Republic and Pensy provide excellent tailoring facilities. If we talk about the cost difference, Pensy takes the lead in being quite price competitive.
For me Walima is like that relaxing weekend after 5 days occupied with work and nothing else, well but not for people on groom side. It is not that hectic as it is for people at bride side but still. Apart from how much one has to put in for the event, it is one event where there is no excuse to be tacky in your dressing. Once again, as I keep on telling everyone in real life, your dress defines who you are, do not let it be otherwise. Double breasted coat is very much back now…wear it while it last in this season! Neat checks, a big yes. Keep the medium strength on color, like if you wish to wear blue than it should be Royal Blue or a sleek Blue check over Heather grey. It could be any color but keep it on medium tone. 3 Pc suit, same fabric for coat and trouser with a darker tone waist coat is another sure shot winner. With all this, tie is a must and again it cannot bolder than your waistcoat. Shoes, it has to be Brogue all the way but you can also go with Oxfords.
Personally, I always go with customized formal attire. My body shape is nowhere close to perfect but even for those chiseled bodies, getting a custom fit suiting is better. Lahore offers massive range of custom tailoring and all of these have some sort of expertise. I always caliber these custom tailors on the amount of time they have spent in it. One can go to Dandy Tailors, which has been there for ages. Pensy Garment is among the few who are offering a complete customization option. They recently added custom made shoes to their range.
