Battle of SWAG -Top politicians as fashionistas

The top politicians of our country serve as a direct representative of our culture and identity for foreign dignitaries. Let’s take a look at some of their fashion choices so we can see if their supposed representation of the average joe is spot on, or a huge miss.

Nawaz Sharif:

I’ve hardly ever seen him wearing anything other than a white shalwar kameez with a black waistcoat, or a boring, albeit expensive, suit. I get that he’s old, but he needs to step up his fashion game if he wants to look snappy, as opposed to looking perpetually miserable/unaware like he already does.

However, a little google search reveals that he had a flair for bright colours during his youth. The red blazer, the glasses and the snazzy car are so quintessentially vintage.

Imran Khan:

Okay, let’s face it, having Imran Khan on this list is pretty unfair to all the other politicians, but he is undoubtedly one of the most good looking men in politics at the moment. He manages to rock a plain old shalwar kameez and a tailored suit alike.

Like Nawaz Sharif, his style in the 80s was very 80s, with the open shirts, long flared out hair and his unmistakably smug charm.

Sheikh Rasheed:

All the other politicians need to take cues from Sheikh Rasheed, because he is the king of swag. While he may be wearing the qoumi dress; which is white shalwar kameez and a waistcoat, he knows how to accessorise. The cigar, the glasses and the attitude complete his very badass, and very swaggy look. Accessorising done right.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any pictures of him from when he was young, so I don’t really know how his fashion sense has evolved over the years. Here’s a meme to satisfy your soul.

Sheikh Rasheed clearly wins this round with his swag and badassery, while Imran Khan may be better looking, he doesn’t have the swag factor anymore.

Asif Ali Zardari:

Asif Ali Zardari? More like Asif I care about my appearance. Like Nawaz Sharif, he doesn’t seem to have a personal style, since you can usually see him wearing boring suits, shalwar kameez or something with an ajrak print on it.

Even in his youth, he looked like a non-descript young man with average clothes and a thick moustache. In all honesty, there really isn’t much of a difference between either phases of his life, except he’s a lot older now, and his moustache has grayed.

Altaf Hussain:

Altaf Hussain looks like the very, very desi and chubby version of T.Pain’s brother. The glasses, the bling and the intimidating demeanor are all very ‘gangsta’ and I’m sure that’s the sort of look Altaf Hussain was aiming for.
