Up Close and Personal with Bilal Mukhtar

Kluchit got the privilege to get to know the King of Event Management  and PR himself, Bilal Mukhtar.

Tell us about yourself.

I am basically from Faisalabad but came to Lahore to study bachelors in communication from Punjab University and film making from NCA. I started off as a fashion director and was working with FTV; but it closed down.  That’s when I got the idea to get into PR since I knew everyone in the fashion industry. I knew all the designers so I started doing small events for friends like Maria B, HSY etc. Since then it has been uphill.

Where are you today? Where do you plan to reach?

People have defined where I stand today. They assure me of being in a good position but this industry is very unpredictable and one can go back to zero if he loses focus. I myself  am very satisfied position with where I am. In the future, I want to see myself at the top yet at the level where I’m comfortable too. I don’t want to be in a rat race where I’m always tensed.

How do you see PR industry in Pakistan today?

The industry is doing well in Pakistan people are getting an idea people have realized its better than agencies since the agency concept in Pakistan is followed. So now people know the difference between companies and agencies.

Would you like to share any interesting incident that happened to you during your career?

Nothing much but once a client came in for an event, everything was done and advances were given but 3 days before the event, she cancelled because of some father in law issues so we postponed it. This kept happening for 6 months and in the end we were blamed for not managing the event which we still offered to accommodate. I believe such issues should not be taken into consideration if you believe to do such work.

If given a chance to switch today, what/who would you like to be?

I always had an interest in properties. I like the simple ‘Jageedar’ village life and would love to do something in Raheem Yar Khan.

Tell us about your childhood, you do not seem the naughty or are these looks deceptive?

I wasn’t really naughty we had a really simple childhood because we had been taught from day one that we had to do everything ourselves. Like I used to iron my clothes and polished my shoes in fifth grade. Since my mother was a single parent so one sister would take care of food one would take care of washing the dishes and then my turn would also come. My life helped me start my career at an early age. I was 13 when I travelled alone to Islamabad from Faisalabad all by myself. But my uncle picked when I reached so I didn’t really have the time to be naughty. I don’t truly miss it because I think I’m a serious and responsible person who likes control. No wonder I’m in event management since I’m really bossy.

Married? (If not, when are you tying the knot?)

I am happily settled. So in a way I’m not single, I’m not married, I’m happily single which is why I’m not married but not even engaged though.

Up Close and Personal with Bilal Mukhtar

Our general idea of your social life is that you are among people 24/7, is that true?

Certainly not with people 24/7.  I prefer staying home rather than attending events. I have this policy since a year or two now have become old about not going out after 6. So I tend to see all of them during lunches and all then I want is to stay away during weekends. If you don’t give time to yourself because of social life then you really start hating people.

Give us 5 things you would never leave your home without?
