Ice Cream is on the most indulgent and popular desserts of the world. We love ice cream as much as the next person which is why we got extremely excited when we discovered ice cream is said to cure a cold. Is it really just a myth or is there some truth to this unexpected but delicious medicine for the flu?
When we were young, we were forbidden from eating ice cream or anything else that’s cold as it is believed that the ice cream would chill our insides and worsen our illness. We were scolded if we even LOOKED longingly at this frozen dessert and were kept away from it even weeks after we had been cured. However according to Dr. Morgan Jenkins a resident physician at Raffles Medical Hong Kong, there is scant medical evidence that ice cream can slow down the recovery process. He states that the only way to improve your condition is to omit certain food items such a acidic foods, sweets and fattening food such as burgers, fries and pizza etc.
It is said that ice creams provides those much needed calories you need when you’re sick. When we are hit with the common cold coupled with a sore throat, we lose weight in the unhealthiest way, making us look pale and weak. Although people say eating ice cream aggravates your mucus production, there is no medical evidence to support this. In fact, studies say there is no correlation between ice cream and nasal congestion.
Maybe we have been doing it wrong our whole lives? Who is gutsy enough to try this remedy?!
