Lahore is renowned for its rich food culture and Lahoris are well-known for their ultimate love for food. Food is evidently not just fuel for the body for the people of Lahore; it is a way of living and enjoying life. As a tribute to the food lovers of Lahore and the consecutive success of three food festivals in Karachi, the organizers of Karachi Eat have now transformed Jillani Park into a heaven for food lovers in Lahore – More like all you can eat under one roof, or in the same compound to put it more appropriately!
Lahore Eat Food Festival, organized by Latitude PR is being held this weekend, 26th to 28th February, in the Polo Ground of Jillani Park. About the first two days of Lahore Eat, overall the event was a roaring success and people actually had a good time eating, drinking and doing the usual what you would expect them to do at a food festival. There were more than 50 stalls to choose from with entertainment for kids and adults both.
Now there are always problems in a huge event like this and Lahore Eat Food Festival had some too the biggest one being that of parking. The confusion of the entrance and a long walk to the event made a lot of people go back halfway. A shuttle service perhaps would have been convenient for the elders as it was a food marathon, not a walkathon! But then when it’s FOOD and its LAHORE so they always manage a way to get to it! Perhaps the festival’s bad luck was that there was another festival going on at the same time which caused a lot of traffic and parking problem. Still, the crowd inside was proof of how much of a success the event was!
Other than the walkathon, the disappointment levels hit the ceiling at the ticket counter because the price of the ticket was a tad bit more than that was displayed on the official Lahore Eat Facebook Page and a lot of stalls were not even set up at 4:00 p.m. on the first day, which was the stipulated starting time. Coming to the quality of food being served, most of the stalls were serving typical food which is easily accessible in mainstream restaurants. A few stalls really caught our attention e.g. Awesomeosas with their heavenly samosa fillings (Pizza, Dum Keema, Reese’s, Apple Pie, Chocolate S’more and Caramelized Onions), Churros by Sugarie, Maro’s Nutella Lassi, Jumbo Gyro’s Tortillas, Sarrak Pay Karrak’s display, The Daily Deli’s Sliders and The Shak’s Burgers and Fish and Chips. Magnum, with their bar and an eye catching display were there too and were a hit – something Lahoris had been deprived of until now.
The seating area was set up for the customers in collaboration with 7up, enabling them to enjoy the scrumptious spicy food offered at Shan’s Sindhi Biryani, Bombay Chowpatty’s Masala Dosa, Raj Kachori and Chicken e Azam. A very friendly family from Hunza served organic food which was delicious yet underrated. Refreshing tea, at Tea Bar by Lipton, served as an essential to refresh people after the tiring day. But it was pretty clear that the stalls selling something different and new had the biggest following and remained popular throughout which includes all the of the stalls mentioned above. Stalls selling typical food had a slow sale such as Pearl Continental, even with around five stalls weren’t such a hit.
Lahore Eat Food Festival is an experience which brings you face to face with people who make your food and give the chance to people to display and promote their talents. So, do not let this chance slip and be there at the last day of Lahore Eat to taste some really appetizing food – Be there and be counted, for you’ll be one of the pioneers in making this festival’s first timer a success in Lahore – Lahoris let’s do this, see you there on the 3rd and the final day of the festival!!
