Jahlar Lake – Soon Valley

The ‘Soon Valley’ is a famous valley in the district of Khushaab in the province of Punjab. It is situated in the northwest and Naushera is the main town of the valley. The valley starts from Kathwai village and ends in Sakesar which is the highest peak in the Salt Range. The total area of the Soon Valley is roughly 300 square miles. Although it is not as cold as the valleys up north, the Soon Valley is home to several beautiful lakes, waterfalls, jungles, natural pools and ponds. One such lake is the Jahlar Lake, which is around 950 feet above sea level. Around 50 species of migratory birds come to the lake in winters from the cold plains of Siberia to to feed on the fish in the lake. Jahlar Lake is roughly 20 kilometres south of Naushera, and a full width metal road starting from the city leads to the lake passing through the village of Surraki.

One can experience and appreciate the peacefulness and the serenity that natural beauty brings upon visiting Jahlar Lake. Unfortunately, the authorities have failed to establish the lake as a popular tourist destination. There are no boating and/or fishing facilities available unlike the other lake in the area. Additionally, the water is somewhat acidic although it does not affect the overall attractiveness of the lake. The total area of the lake is approximately 148 acres.
