3 ways to winter-proof your hair

Our favorite season of the year is back, but so are the chances for dry, stiff and flat hair. Now that’s something we all want to avoid!! No need to worry, as kluchit.com brings you three simple ways to winter-proof your hair.

1) Nourish and Hydrate:

In the winters people tend to suffer from a dry scalp, which can be annoying as well as harmful for your hair. Your scalp requires nourishment, even though it generates its own oils to provide sustenance for the growth of your hair. Sometimes however, excessive oiling can end up blocking the pores of the scalp. The best thing to do is to massage the roots with warm oils such as almond, castor, coconut or olive oil. This will not only help bring volume to your hair but it will also make them healthier and shinier. Additionally, there are several other advantages as well which you may not be aware of for instance; it helps in hair growth and it also assists in preventing the graying of hair (unless its a genetic issue). Not only does it help relax your mind and body, but it also prevents fungal infections. Using hair masks once a week is also beneficial for the scalp and for your hair.

2) Moisturize

Since the air contains low levels of moisture in the winters, it is necessary to contain the level of moisture in your hair. Opt for shampoos and conditioners which are especially designed to formulate dry hair. You can try the Body Shop’s Ginger Anti-Dandruff Shampoo which is excellent for getting rid of flake and also conditions dry scalps. For those who have fine hair, they should definitely try L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hair care Volume Filler Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner, as it not only moisturizes the scalp but it also helps in providing flat hair with more volume.

3) Avoid the Heat

Now avoiding the heat here does not mean you shouldn’t go out in the sun, instead it points to the long hot showers that we all love to take during the cold season. The hot water may help in relaxing our body but it is definitely not good for our hair since it can damage your locks and lead to split ends. So the best thing would be to wash your hair with mild lukewarm water to avoid causing any harm. For those who love straightening their hair and styling them, try to avoid using heating styling tools. Our hair consists of keratin proteins and hydrogen bonds which are affected by these heating tools that shred the proteins by breaking the protective hydrogen bonds. So how can one style while causing the minimum amount of damage? Well, for starters wait until your hair is dry and preferably, let it air dry. Protect your hair before styling, and for this you should try using products that comprise of silicone as silicone can work as a shield which covers your hair. Last but not the least, use good styling tools which have ceramic, titanium or far-infrared technology.

Enjoy the lovely season with these tips to keep your hair strong and healthy!!
