Whenever the rest of the world tries to portray a negative and/or down played image of Pakistan, something great happens and immediately improves the image of Pakistan. Something of the same sort happened not many days ago when Mike Horn, the brand ambassador of Mercedes Benz, visited Pakistan again. This guy is probably the Vasco De Gama of the contemporary world and he came to Pakistan to summit another 8 thousander. This time he chose the Mount Godwin Austen, better known as K2.
Although he failed to reach the top due to harsh weather conditions, he wasn’t willing to stop trying. This year not just Mike, but several other summiteers failed to summit the ‘mountain of mountains’ (as Mike calls it) due to severe weather conditions.
In a short documentary which he published on his Facebook page he said:
“I often get asked, why do I want to go to Pakistan? In contrary to what the press has to say and to what we read, Pakistan has been a peaceful place. The people have been kind to us, they have opened their arms, they have opened their hearts and people with very little, gave us everything they had and that’s what makes Pakistan an interesting place to visit. The people make it worth it.”
Mike Horn is famous as the world’s most prolific modern day explorer. From swimming the Amazon River solo and unsupported to an un-motorized circumnavigation of the globe at the equator, Mike’s list of accomplishments as a solo explorer is unparalleled.
In two decades, he has been to more places than any other human. He has walked on foot to the North Pole during the dark season (more people have been to the moon) and has scaled the world’s 8,000 meter peaks, including a recent attempt to paraglide K2. He built a “4×4 of the sea” in his mind over the two plus years of walking on the ice in minus 60-degree weather. Now, he has several new projects on the horizon which are bigger and more inspiring than ever.
Kluchit.com highly appreciates Mike Horn and his team’s efforts to visit Pakistan in order to explore the heart and soul of the country in the best manner possible. We wish you the very best for the future and as always our doors, hearts and arms are always open for you. Cheers!!
