Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp and Instagram struck by a major outage on Monday, affecting millions of users, showed by tracking sites.
Around 8:45 pm PST, the major social media platforms suffered major outage and stopped loading for thousands of users, as reported.
Later on, hundreds of millions of users reported loading issues with Whatsapp, Facebook and other associated applications on a tracking website, Downdetector.
A Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) spokesperson said in a tweet that Facebook services –Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus – have been affected internationally due to an outage. “Further details are being collected,” he added.
As reported by the New York Times, “Outages are not uncommon for apps, but to have so many interconnected apps at the world’s largest social media company go down at the same time is rare”.
Whatsapp and Facebook also confirmed the outage through twitter:
Instagram followed suit and tweeted:
“Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! #instagramdown”.
