‘Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay’ – A Promising Story About Dysfunctional Families

One of the most awaited dramas by Umera Ahmed, “Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay” aired on 1st August, 2021. Umera Ahmed never disappoints with her stories and characters. Her plots are powerful and her dramas pull the viewers in with their relatable storylines. Directed by Farooq Rind, produced by Nina Kashif and Momina Duraid Productions, the story is full of emotional and heart-wrenching moments.

It revolves around three protagonists netted in a love triangle even though Mashal (Kubra Khan) has set an antagonistic aura. The plot is based on lives of children who belong to dysfunctional families. It depicts how faults of the parents haunt their children, leaving a permanent mark. Furthermore, the drama entranced the audience with its very first episode and public has been hooked to it ever since!

The Characters

Mahira Khan, Kubra Khan and Usman Mukhtar play the role of cousins with Mehreen (Mahira Khan) being the ideal child. Mansoor (Omair Rana) is a drug addict father of Mehreen. He sells his wife Rabia’s (Laila Wasti) gold to settle the debt which causes a lot of drama. The fight to leave Mansoor, his tragic death and Rabia’s familys’ dislike for Mehreen plays a huge role in shaping Mehreen’s bitter personality. On other side of the story, Mashal has to hear her mother Shagufta’s (Zainab Qayyum) bombast about how Mashal should be like Mehreen. In addition, she spews the seeds of doubt about her Phupho Saleha (Huma Nawab) and Dadi (Shamim Hilaly) in Mashal’s mind.

In the recent episodes, the three are seen as grown-ups. Mashal and Mehreen are going through a harsh phase in their lives. Their family’s politics and dysfunctionality has caused animosity among them.

This time, Mahira Khan’s role is totally different from all her previous roles and the drama has a story that calls for attention and grips the viewer, setting its roots deep within. Kubra has also made an appearance after her debut in ‘Alif’. Mahira Khan made an appearance on the small screen with the first episode of Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay after a long gap of almost 6 years. Usman Mukhtar received a positive feedback for his performance in ‘Sabaat’, so we were really expecting more from him and he didn’t disappoint!

The Leads

Mehreen is an emotionally troubled girl with a strong spirit. Kubra Khan convincingly plays the role of a girl who is compelled to compare herself to her family’s ideal child, Mehreen. Life tragedies have spilled shades of animosity on the children’s character as they grow up. Aswad (Usman Mukhtar) has a limited presence in the episodes aired so far. However, his performance has been quite promising. However, we expect Aswad him to come to his senses and realize the lies Mashal is spewing.
