When we look back and go down the memory lane, we can recall many 80s 90s tv dramas from the golden era of PTV that were a huge hit among audience and are still a treat to watch.
Back then PTV dramas were not only loved by Pakistani but people across the border as well. This decade is, by far, one of the most diverse there’s ever been and the quality content created back then cannot be compared.
Looking back on the classic dramas that made nineties and eighties such a golden era, we have gathered a list for you all.
1-Dhoop Kinare
Dhoop Kinare was one of the classic dramas from the era of the ’80s, and it was a huge hit among audience with outstanding performances. The story is about a team of doctors working at a hospital in Karachi and their personal lives. The love story between the two doctors Dr. Ahmer and Dr. Zoya was one of its great and hooked everyone to their screens. Tremendous script, splendid performances and powerful dialogues made Dhoop Kinare one of the finest dramas.
2- Alpha Bravo Charlie
One of the best drama series, A must watch. Alpha bravo Charlie is thriller Pakistani drama series with action packed scenes. It has almost everything humor, patriotism and romance which make this drama stand out. Those who have watched this can’t disagree that this drama is the perfect in terms of everything. Shoaib Mansoor really did his best and proved to be as the best director of this time. This drama is based on three characters, Kashif, Fraz and gulshir as Alpha, Bravo and Charlie, the story revolves around their friendship and how they all wish to start their career in Pakistan army. Those of you who haven’t watched this drama yet you all need to go and watch this awe-inspiring masterpiece.
3- Sunehry Din
Another masterpiece directed by Shoaib Mansoor, Sunehry Din is a popular 90s drama that instantly became a hit. The story of this drama revolved around the lives of young cadets from Pakistani Military Academy in Kakul. The seniors take advantage of their power by imposing tough restrictions on the juniors in order to prepare them for difficult challenges, But the juniors took their vengeance when they turned into seniors right before their promotion. The serial was informative with humor, A must watch!
4- Dhuwan
Blockbuster drama, Dhuwan is a timeless classic. Aired in the golden times on PTV, became one of the most famous drama in its time. The story is based on five friends who join forces together to fight against crimes related to terrorism and drug dealing. Drama serial Dhuwan turned out to be a step in the right direction (a very successful project) for Nabeel Zafar. Another must watch 90s masterpiece!
5- Ankahi
Good family comedy drama, Ankahi is an 80s classic. The story revolves around a young girl, Sana Murad who is ambitious and wants to become successful in life and do something big.
Drama is based on middle class family life and romance. It was highly praised in its time. Amazing dialogue delivery and heart touching story, makes it worth watching.
6- Angan Terha
We are sure you’ve heard about it, Angan terha is an 80s classic and it was a massive hit. The cast was some of Pakistan’s best; Bushra Ansari, Arshad Mehmood, Salim Nasir and Shakeel. This comedy drama is based on stories of Mehboob Ahmed, his wife Jahan Ara Begum and their kaam wala Akbar. Each character in this show stands out and depicts interesting stereotypes within our society, but one character was loved by audience more is kaam wala Akbar, his witty dialouges and his acting was marvelous. It’s prequel was also recreated in 2019 by Anwar Maqsood, original play was also written by him in late 1980s.
7- Tanhaiyan
Tanhaiyan has one of the best storylines, it was created in 1985 directed by Shahzad khalil. The story revolves around two sisters, Zara and Sanya who lost their parents in an accident and goes bankrupt, after that they have to live with their aunt. But Zara is determined to get back what she lost. The character development in this play is appreciable. Both the characters were independent. Very well written and the actors did an amazing job.
