As the fourth wave of Covid hits Pakistan, this Eid stay at home and watch these thrilling Pakistani dramas. Different from basic saas bahu storylines, the story of these dramas will keep you on your toes.
1-Baaghi
Baaghi is one of the top suspenseful drama in our list. It was a blockbuster hit. The story is based on a true story about a controversial Pakistani girl “Qandeel Baloch” played by Saba Qamar, who was killed in the name of honor by her brother. How a rebellious girl who comes from a village to make her mark in the media industry faces the dark truth of society. The dramas main objective is male dominance and how the general mentality in the village that dictates that women shouldn’t be empowered and should remain confined to their homes. Baaghi also covers the issues faced by women in rural areas. It is filled with suspense and emotions. The play leaves the viewers in tears.
2-Churails
An original Pakistani web series, Churails is not your average Pakistani drama. It is totally different from what Pakistani viewers are used to watch. It’s a drama based on feminism and it challenges the norms of male dominant society. A group of girls who get together and starts a secret detective agency called Churails. The aim of the detective agency is to help women find secrets about their husband who they suspect cheating, but later the story progresses upon more concerning and sensitive issues like child marriages, rapes, harassment, racism, forced marriages and class inequalities. The show uncovers harsh realities of Pakistani society and it’s a must watch for everyone.
3-Bela Pur Ki Dayan
Bela Pur Ki Dayan is a thrilling horror Pakistani drama series. The story is about injustice and revenge. The storyline spins around a ghost of women who returns from afterlife to take revenge on those who caused her death. A family shifts into an old house, soon the family becomes disturbed by a supernatural presence, but later they realized that the spirit doesn’t want to harm them but instead she want them to uncover the dark mystery quest. It’s a great horror series to watch.
4-Muqaddas
Muqaddas is a Pakistani thrilling romantic series. The story is about the girl named muqaddas, played by iqra aziz, who is a confident career oriented girl. The story unravels when she get married and is abducted on her wedding night. Her husband tries to locate her and her abductors but he fails. The story is filled with suspense and it’s worth a watch.
5-Yeh Dill Mera
It’s a psychological thriller Pakistani series. A couple who both have different personalities and are totally opposite from each other, however they fell in love with each other and the story begins. Both the characters have gone through a trauma in their past life which still has a great effect on them. Later they uncover dark truths about each other and their family. Both Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir did a tremendous job. The storyline has everything pain, suspense and drama.
6-Nazr-e-bad
Nazr-e-Bad is a drama based on old superstitious of Nazr-e-Bad (evil eye) and black magic. The story reveals how evil eye can ruin the lives of an entire family and jealousy can lead people to do horrendous things. The story is about a girl named Maham , who doesn’t like her cousin named Pervaiz who deeply loves her, the suspense begins when maham is about to get married to her other cousin, which shakes pervaiz as he wanted to marry her. His jealousy and envy leads him to do Black magic, that result in horrific events. The drama was a hit and is one of the Pakistani suspenseful dramas.
7-Ishq Mein Kaafir
The story revolves around a family who gets involved in black magic which destroys their life. Salima believes in black magic and she goes to people who does witchcraft, believing that it will solve all her family problems. Later her daughter, Ujala played by Saboor Aly also starts practicing black magic to obtain her love who is in love with another girl. In which she ends up ruining her life entirely. The drama shows all the bitter realities of weak people who believes that black magic will solve their problems.
8-Ishq Zahe Naseeb
Ishq Zahe Naseeb covers the topic about mental illness, split personality disorder, A bubbly girl, named Gohar who is forced to marry because of society norms, later realized that she is married to a man with split personality disorder, played by Zahid Ahmed who plays both the character of man and a women. It’s a diverse play which covers acid attack, mental illness and a loyalty of girl towards her husband. The script of the play was great and it makes the drama worth watching.
9-Ruswai
Ruswai is about a girl who stands alone in this society to fight against rape. The story of this drama series revolves around the sensitive and important topic of sexual abuse issues and how the typical society changes its behavior and treats the victim afterwards. The main character named “Dr Sameerah “faces many challenges from this society, her husband is very possessive about society’s reaction and wants her to stay silent. The story also has a twist of old tradition “watta satta” marriage.
