Coke Studio’s Afreen Afreen was that one song that created a major frenzy when it was released. Either people loved it, or hated it.
Sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Mustehsan, the haters of the song were of the view that Coke Studio wrongfully turned a Qawali into a wedding song. I remember a colleague blatantly complaining that all the Dulha Dulhans of the year will enter on this song on their Valimas, which will be cringe worthy to watch.
Nevertheless, the song probably grew on the haters too because Afreen Afreen just became the first Pakistani song to cross 200 million views on Youtube.
Momina Mustehsan took to Instagram to announce the news and even shared a video of herself and Rahat jee reminiscing the song, while singing it.
She wrote, “Thank you, everyone, for your love and support! Afreen becomes the first song in Pakistan to cross 200 million views.”
The record was previously held by Atif Aslam’s Tajdar-e-Haram which has a total of 182 million views till date.
