Is your lawn jora even worth it?

It’s that time of the year again, when you’re going crazy going through lawn catalouges, squinting at the dresses displayed on Instagram to order the perfect lawn jora for Eid.

Little do you know that all their “karigars” started working tirelessly, under the umbrellas of brilliant designers, last year when you were wrapped in your warm blanket, sipping coffee. A lot of people worked on prints, colors, embroidery, cuts, patterns and everything else that a lady sitting next to you in a party might notice!

Now that everything is done and “Festive Lawn Collection” is available in stores, all you need to do is click and place an order or rush to the outlet to grab your “jora” before “SOLD OUT” cards are displayed.

In recent years we have witnessed some ridiculous, rather pathetic scenes at stores that actually make one ponder for a second about the hype. At the end of the day it’s just a suit! A suit, which was marvelously pulled off by Karina Kapoor some time ago. Who doesn’t want to turn into Karina after all, all it takes is a suit.

Did you even realise that it took Karina and her entire team, an effort of weeks, tons of makeup and some real expensive camera equipment along with remarkable photographers to come up with 4 to 5 shots, worth displaying on life size billboards and TV advertisements.

Her looks have nothing to do with the suit she was wearing since it is nothing vey unique. Just do it someday, sit back and go through all the lawn collections by some successful designers and look for small details.

Soon you will notice, that all the ‘rare’ pearls on the collection a designer was Snapchat-ting are found abundantly in Liberty Market at a very cheap price. You will see that the intricate and flamboyant prints that are being displayed are just an amalgamated version of the last year’s prints and some ideas of topnotch international designers. Not only these, “new trends” the so called trend setters are talking of, have nothing to do with creativity and your darzi would have done it exactly this way if not better!

I cannot forget to mention the top quality fabric that makes you feel cool even in the hottest of time! That fabric is easily available in bazaars of Pakistan that are terribly underrated.

I do understand the fact that people don’t have ‘time’ anymore to fuss over details themselves but, how about not wearing a uniform. |How about not sticking an embroided patch exactly where the designer has. How about buying different crystal stones to hang rather than the ones given. How about just using your own creativity for a chance. The patches and stones that make that specific festive collection so expensive; they arent even one tenth the price you’re charged.

It must be hard to believe, because the lawn craze has made us uncapable to analyze and spend. This summer, it’s up to you if you are going to let your sagacity kick in and get made a jaw dropping jora in half the price or you will go for a suit worth Rs. 10,000 from an overcrowded outlet.
Happy summers!
