Lahore has seen lights of amazing theatrical performances. Overtime the trend went down due to lack of quality material but now it is coming back. Amongst all this, came Hua Kuch yoon. Sajid Hasan wrote the play and Dawar Mehmood directed it. It is there till 24th January at Alhamra Cultural Complex, Mall Road.
This is the same production team which gave us super plays like Ponay Choda August and Sawa Choda August, both written by Anwar Maqsood. Kopycats Production carried on with their legacy of showcasing the best on stage. Hua Kuch Yoon has a very unique storyline to it. Is it a love story or a representation of what happened during Indo-Pak independence? To answer this, it’s a mix of both. While the British were gunning down any independence motivated individual, a love story was brewing up between a girl Qurat Ul Ain (Fareeha Raza) from Congress and a boy Raja (Saad Farrukh Khan) from Muslim League.
It would be unfair to give any further hint to what the story is. But let me share this insight with you, this play has the largest cast member I have seen so far. There might have been more in some case…at some place but not that I know of. The gaps and sudden jumps in time were little irritating but that always went at the background with dialogues between characters. How would I define this play to be? Its a massive mix off comic, love story and bit of factual representation of historical events. Somewhere in the middle I found it to be a little drag with unnecessary historical events and the play could have been lesser than 1hour 40minutes.
At the end, hats off to complete cast. From the comic fruit vendor to female actress playing Indra Ghandi, every character did justice to their part. Kopykats production and Dawar did a remarkable job by putting up 35 actors and 11 set changes in a single play. This play is happening at Alhamra Cultural Complex, Mall Road Lahore and is there till 24th January, 2018. Kluchit team was invited by MoshDiaries and glad that we went to watch it.
