Ayeza Khan uploaded a picture of her adorable daughter on her second birthday, and people lost their minds. Why? Because she was wearing a supposedly revealing mermaid costume. A 2 year old baby girl is being policed by the online moral police on what to wear. The world is full of judgemental people, and with time, you learn to live with it. Young mothers in Pakistan are costantly receiving unsolicited advice by everyone around them about motherhood, but things take a problematic turn when a 2 year old is being sexualised, and it is utterly sickening. She is a 2 year old child, who probably doesn’t even know what gender is, or if there is such a thing as indecency, and people passing comments like, “Agar ye abhi aise kapray pehan rahi hai, future mein kesi dressing kare gi,” shows how fundamentalism is deeply internalised in our society, because female children are being sexually objectified, as opposed to being seen as innocent, non-sexual entities. She can’t even change her own diapers, or feed herself, and yet people expect her to dress ‘modestly.’ Ayeza Khan being called an irresponsible mother still makes more sense than people addressing the child directly and questioning her future choices.
Pedophilia and child-molestation are rampant in Pakistan due to the kind of mindset that sexualises a toddler, and we really need to move away from this disturbing trend. If someone wants to refute me, please explain why it is okay for parents to promise their children in marriage at their birth. It doesn’t matter if they get married when they’re 18 or not, what matters is how sexual objectifiction of children, regardless of gender, starts at their birth. Let that sink in.
Here’s a few screenshots of the madness that ensued:
Like this moron questioning Ayeza’s religious affiliation and placing her family’s honour upon her TWO YEAR OLD daughter.
However, despite all the negativity, a few sensible people decided to defend Ayeza and her daughter. Yet, the negative comments outweighed the sensible ones.
