Chocolate mousse is a silky smooth and light dessert. There are more than one ways of making it and every time it is delicious. I am going to tell you how to make it using meringue ( silky, airy, egg whites, mostly whipped with sugar). It’s always a good idea to give the mousse few hours to set , to enjoy this dessert to the fullest.
So to make this dessert, you will need:
- Bittersweet chocolate 455 g
- Heavy cream 240 ml (1cup)
- Strong coffee 2 tablespoons (optional)
- Egg whites 4 large
- Sugar
100g ( half cup) - Pinch of salt
- Chocolate shavings or whipped cream for decoration
Method:
-In a small saucepan, bring the cream to a simmer. Pour this cream over shredded chocolate. Let it rest for a couple of minutes. Then whisk until smooth.
-Whisk in coffee and let it cool to room temperature.
-Combine the egg whites, sugar, and salt in a bowl of electric mixer and whisk.
-Now set this bowl over a pan of simmering water and whisk gently until egg whites are hot to touch and you don’t feel any sugar granules between your fingers ( 3 to 4 minutes).
-Now place this bowl on the mixer and whip the whites until they are cooled but not dry.
-Pour the mousse either in a 6 cup bowl or individual glasses.
-Chill it for several hours until it is set. Ideally overnight.
-To decorate, you can sprinkle coca powder or grated dark or white chocolate or some fruit such as raspberry or strawberry.
Hope you will give it a try and have amazing results as well.
