Light, golden in color, soft from the inside and crispy from the outside. That is the description of the perfect waffle for you, and I have had tons of those from Hot Spot (Lahore), especially back in the day when it used to be the “it” place in Lahore. Don’t get me wrong, they still serve some very good desserts but Hot Spot, what happened to your waffles?!
Feeling a little nostalgic the other day (went there after a LONG time); I ordered what I order every time: Waffles with my favorite scoop of the gigantic ice cream they serve. I waited in anticipation for it with a gazillion glances at the counter to check if my order was ready, and when it finally arrived, I was absolutely gobsmacked. The plate nestled a paper thin waffle with a scoop of ice cream on top. The ice cream still looked promising and it was too, but it wasn’t nearly the same with the waffle. Okay, maybe paper-thin was an exaggeration; but it really was only about half a centimeter thick!! After taking some time to get over my disappointment, I eventually decided to dig in but little did I know that eating the waffle was like waging a war. Firstly, just a mere spoon was served with the round waffle, no fork or knife. And then, the waffle just would not break! I wrestled with it while my friends had a good laugh over my order. Finally, after a good fight; it was slightly edible. I smeared the whole scoop of ice cream over it, which softened it just a little but the texture was very dense.
Hotspot, you really need to bring back the waffles you used to make. Bring back the same old machine as this one is not doing the trick! Your desserts are still on point, but seriously, we want the good old waffle back! Sincerely, a waffle lover.
