Olomopolo Media organized a 2 day event for Manto fans at Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra) on Friday, the 22nd and Saturday, the 23rd of January 2016. Some extremely amazing readings were carried out by some of the leading actors of the television industry. Father and son duo Irfan and Sarmad Khoosat mesmerized the audience by lending their voices to Manto’s writings. Apart from these two, Sania Saeed and Feryal Ali-Gauhar also lent their voices to some great words written by the great Manto.
Overall, the event was an admirable effort from the organizers as not only the walled city of Lahore, but the whole nation needs to get acquainted with what legends like Manto have done in the past and their contributions to our society. Absolute Manto 2 and events of a similar nature must slowly pave their path to the masses apart from the form of theatrical readings as well. Kluchit.com heartily admires, acknowledges and appreciates the hard work of Kanwal Khoosat, the Director of Olomopolo Media, and we also look forward to have more of the same for others like Mirza Asad-Ullah Khan Ghalib etc.
Irfan Khoosat narrated the short story Khol Do (Open it), Sarmad Khoosat read out Naam Kaur, Ghusal Khana (Bathroom) was read out by Sania Saeed, and Feryal Ali Gauhar lent her beautiful voice to Mochna (Tweezer). An interesting aspect of these readings were the colorful shawls which everyone wore while on stage. Sarmad Khoosat also wore a turban on the head like sikh men do. He read out the story of a sikh man who was imprisoned for multiple years after falling in love with a young girl. The whole event was sweet solace for Manto’s avid fans and those who missed out this time will now have to wait for the next episode.
