What is your favorite part about being a fashion designer? I prefer the term ‘artist’ or ‘creator’, as I draw my inspiration from nature, people, travel which translates into my work. What I enjoy the most is when someone appreciates my work or wears one of my creations on a special occasion. I feel it is an honor, and seeing my clients happy makes me happy!
What kind of style do you think is the latest trend? Whatever suits ones body and whatever compliments ones personality.
Do you try to keep up with the latest trends or do you create your own? It is important to follow what is happening internationally, but considering the Pakistani female body-type one has to truly think locally or regionally. I would never copy another designer, as that is unethical. If I do find something inspirational, and create my version of it, I would always pay tribute to the designer beforehand.
Where do you get your inspiration from? It could be anything. I am an artist, even a fruit could inspire me. I can never run out of ideas, as I draw inspiration from whatever I see and experience.
How did you get started? I started when I was in school, as I used to love dressing up myself, and my sister. Then, at family weddings I was asked to create dresses. My family thoroughly supported me, and I just started about one and a half year ago.
Do you think you are a good designer? I think I have a lot to learn, but yes I do believe I know what would look best if a client asked me to create an outfit. I take everything into consideration everything – posture, hair, height, personality and I create bespoke dresses.
What is the simplest design you think could be in for all seasons? A ‘T’ shaped kurta.
What is designing to you? It is a form of self-expression.
If you were not a designer, what else would you be? I feel anyone can do anything as long as they are passionate and dedicated to it. There should be no boundaries, one should follow their heart, put in hard work and leave the rest to Allah. An alternative career, or perhaps in the future an additional career for me could be interior designing.
What makes you unique? I grew up living in four countries, ending up here now in Pakistan. I am enriched, and that shows in my work.
What are your plans for the future? I want to cross borders.
Do you plan on showcasing your collection in the upcoming fashion shows? When the time is right, yes, InshaAllah. 🙂
