A beautiful blend of comedy, romance, passion, tragedy and the choices we make in life seasoned and sprinkled with all the right spices and flavors.
True to its title, ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’, the movie starts with Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) an amateur Indian cook with a profound love for food in his heart, telling a uniformed man about him leaving along with his family for some place in Europe where vegetables have souls. After a political uprising in his village in India claimed the life of not only his mentor and teacher but also his mother, he and his father (Om Puri) flee the country and end up in France.
The family undergoes a freak accident that brings them to the small picturesque village in the south of France which proves to be the ideal location for the restaurant Papa Kadam has in mind. The problem is that the location they choose is exactly 100 feet from the prestigious Michelin-star ‘Le Saule’, which is owned and operated by Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren).
Madame Mallory takes an immediate dislike to the rustic mannerism of her new neighbors and a comedic battle ensues between her and Papa. But when she sees Hassan’s innovative technique of mixing traditional food and spices with modern French dishes, she sees an opportunity to groom another Michelin star chef. Underlined with a blossoming romance between Hassan and the beautiful sous-chef Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon), and a growing affection between Papa and Madame Mallory, the movie is definitely a sweet affair to watch.
This movie will surely leave you hungry but happy.
