We met the very talented Adnan Kandhar who is a photographer, a music director and a cinematographer, for an interview. Read on to find out what he had to say about his life and career.
- Who is Adnan Kandhar?
Adnan Kandhar is a character, who is playing the role of a filmmaker, and a director. He is always trying to give his best and perform well. I am very adjustable, down-to-earth and very understandable.
- What are the top 3 skills for a music video director?
Video directors are the visionaries who create and direct the videos for musical artists. A music video is a short film which is based on a song. Music video directors have to understand the cinematography, the lighting and the editing. They see their creative visions play out on the screen. The chance to turn ideas into visual realities is what informs and entertains the audience.
- Where would you like to be in the next 5 years?
I think I was born to make films and in the next 5 years i will able to make the best kind of films.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strengths include my mother, my ideas and my loyalty with work, whereas my weaknesses are my friends and the fact that i am extremely lazy.
- What qualifications have you attained related to being a music video director?
I am a natural filmmaker. Making music videos is my hobby and that is what pushes me forward.
- How was your experience with ‘Josh’?
It was an amazing experience. The guys were pretty cool and talented, and working with them was a lot of fun.
- You worked with two rivals (Coke studio and Nescafe basement). How were your experiences with both and which one would you rate better?
I think Coke Studio is a very big platform and it features a lot of experienced professionals but Nescafe basement is truly amazing because of the youth and the new artists they dig up. I find Nescafe basement better than Coke Studio.
- How do you measure your job performance?
I think I have done a very good job so far but we need to improve even more.
- Which music video is the closest to you?
I would say all my videos are good and they are all a bit different from each other but the one which is the closest to my heart is ‘Main Sufi Hoon’.
- Exactly what is it that you want to say with your photographs, and how do you actually get your photographs to do that?
As a photographer I love to capture action and candid moments in real life. They are very important to me because a good photographer should always know how to capture the real moments.
- What is your favorite thing about being a cinematographer?
Landscapes always inspire me to capture cinematography.
- What motivates you to continue taking pictures – economics, politics, intellect or emotions?
I would say intellect and emotions.
- How do you feel about the award which you won for “Main Sufi Hoon”?
It was a feeling beyond amazing. For the first time in my entire life I felt highly appreciated for my achievements.
