The Himalayan region has the most picturesque and challenging trekking sites in the world, which are not only beautiful, but also very thrilling. The major trek routes of the area include Sandakphu Trek, Goechala Trek, Green Lake Trek and Yuksom Trek. The trek routes of this region give you an opportunity to witness panoramic vistas like the famous Sikkim and Darjeeling. The basic facilities for both professionals and amateurs both are available in and around the region. It is also home to Everest, which needs no introduction. Trekking requires normal health and basic physical fitness. It is recommended that you form a 4 to 12 member group for this adventure. Trekking is a difficult sport as far as smokers are concerned.
Physical fitness is of the utmost importance for trekking. A trekker should be able to walk for two to three hours at the very least. To enhance fitness, one should start walking for at least an hour daily, around 15 days prior to trekking. Moreover, swimming, cycling, jogging and running also help improve your fitness for this purpose. It is also recommended that you start dieting for a couple of weeks before you start your journey. People with heart and lung related problems are advised not to participate in such adventures, especially on high altitudes because immediate medical help may not be available if required.
Now you need to formulate a checklist. Make sure you have everything necessary for this trip towards the North. For starters, you must have a sleeping bag, a Swiss knife, woolen socks, a torch, warm gloves, a snowcap, wool pullovers, snow and sun glasses, sun hats, a muffler, a hot water bottle, trekking boots, a camera, a whistle, toilet items, binoculars, a rain coat, a bag for personal belongings, and most importantly, a first aid box along with personal medicine.
Trekkers are usually advised to talk less and walk slowly. Breaks should be taken periodically, so that the body gets some rest. Alcohol and smoking should be avoided. Furthermore, you should listen to your guide at all times, and avoid heavy food except before going to sleep at night. It is better not to be over-clothed while traveling and you need to avoid bathing or washing from water bodies on the way.
