From Sunday brunches to regular breakfasts, omelets are a delicious go-to if prepared with patience and finesse. While they are widely believed to have originated in France, traditional romans deem it their invention by claiming to have made the world’s first omelet with eggs and honey. Foodies and omelet geeks alike, simply revel in the mélange of toppings and fillings available to perk up this versatile egg dish which is not only easy to put together, but utterly satisfying. Whether you fall into the former category or the latter, these globally famous omelet recipes are a must try!
FRITTATA:
Ingredients:
- Olive Oil
- Thinly Sliced Potaotes
- Eggs
- Spring Onion
- Parsley
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Galic Mayo Dip
Method:
Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large frying pan. Add the onions and cook for about 8 minutes, until they turn pale golden. Set the mixture aside in a bowl and toss the potato slices into the pan, cooking them till they are golden brown. Next, add them to the onion mixture, toss together and put them back in the pan. Add eggs to a bowl, with pepper and salt to taste and beat them before pouring the mixture right onto the potato slices in the pan. Top up with grated mozzarella cheese and parsley and bake until set (15 to 20 minutes). Once done, cut in wedges and serve with a garlic mayo dip.
SPANISH OMELET:
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp Butter
- Green Bell Pepper
- Minced Onion
- 1 can Tomato Sauce
- 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 pinch Cayenne Pepper
- 4 Eggs
- Milk
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Sugar
Method:
Melt butter over medium heat in a pan. Add green pepper and onion and sauté until tender. Add tomato sauce, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper and stir to make a thick sauce. While the mixture cooks, beat the eggs after adding just a dash of milk and salt. Heat another pan, add oil and put the eggs in till they are cooked properly. Once that is done, pour the sauce cooked earlier all over one side of the omelet and flip over the other to make a pocket. Season with black pepper and you’re done!
CREAM CHEESE OMELET:
Ingredients:
- 2 Eggs
- 1 tbsp Milk
- Salt and grounded Black Pepper
- 3 tbsp Cream Cheese
- Diced Tomatoes
Method:
Whisk eggs, milk, salt and pepper together in a bowl. Pour the egg mixture in a hot pan, taking care that the mixture covers the edges of the pan and cooks over low heat. Arrange small dollops of cream cheese on one side and coat with the diced tomatoes. Fold the omelet over the filling to let the cheese melt. Once it’s cooked, it’s ready to serve!
SWEET CINNAMON OMELET:
Ingredients:
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 or 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 2 or 3 drops Vanilla Essence or Vanilla Powder to taste
- 1 heaped teaspoon (approx.) of Sweetener to taste
- 1 heaped teaspoon Coconut Oil
- Pinch of salt
Method:
Whisk the eggs in a bowl, and if possible, use a beater to do so as the fluffier they get, the fluffier the omelet will turn out to be. Once done, mix in the remaining ingredients and add coconut oil to a warm pan. Once it is heated, pour in the egg mixture and wait for the sides to become firm. Using a spatula, pull the mixture in to the center and flip the omelet once the base has firmed up. When it has cooked enough, flip the omelet onto a plate and top it up to your heart’s desire with whatever your heart desires! From berries to mayple syrup, the sky’s the limit!
